  1. Chhinnamul ( The Uprooted) was a 1950 Bengali film directed by Nemai Ghosh. This was possibly the first Indian film that dwelt with the partition of India and its aftermath. The story revolved around a group of farmers from Bangladesh who were forced to migrate to Kolkata because of the riot followed by the Partition. We Indians did not pay due honour to the film. But famous Russian film director Vsevolod Pudovkin came to Kolkata at that time, watched this film, and being enthused, bought the print of this film to release in Russia. The film was a great success there and was shown in 188 theaters in Russia. But shamefully we must recall that the great director of the film, Nimai Ghosh had to struggle with poverty till his death.
