LEFT PARTIES CALL FOR AP BANDH ON APRIL 9

From India News Network (INN)

Hyderabad: March 27, 2013 : The ten Left parties in Andhra Pradesh have called for a statewide bandh on April 9 on power issue as part of the second phase of its ongoing movement. Prior to the bandh, on April 1, there would be mass relay hunger strikes at all mandal and district headquarters in the state demanding stoppage of power tariff hike, abolition of private merchant power plants policy and Fuel Surcharge Adjustment. They appealed to other opposition parties and people to come forward and make the bandh a big success in order to force the government to relent.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of the ten Left parties held at the state headquarters of CPI, Maqdoom Bhavan today after the leaders withdrew the indefinite hunger strike. B V Raghavulu and Y Venkateshwara Rao from CPI(M), K  Narayana and Aziz Pasha from CPI, P Prasad from CPI(ML), Janakiramulu from RSP, B Surender Reddy from Forward Bloc and others attended the meeting that was chaired by G Vijay Kumar of CPI(ML).

It may be noted the police had forcibly shifted the fasting Left leaders from the hunger strike camp to Gandhi hospital on Tuesday night. The Left leaders strongly condemned the brutal behaviour of the police while swooping down on the hunger strike camp.

After noting that the first phase of agitation by Left parties has been successful, the leaders deliberated for over two hours on the future course of action. They asserted that this struggle will be intensified in the coming days. Later the leaders visited the indefinite hunger strike camp of TDP legislators in MLA Quarters and expressed solidarity. They said the Left parties would support any such agitation by any political party on this important issue.
